Android is an operating system which is based on the free and open source code of Linux, and it is mainly used in mobile devices, such as smart mobile phone and tablet computer. The Android is leaded and developed by the Google and open mobile phone Alliance. At present, there is no unified Chinese name; most people of China mainland always admit “Anzhuo” or “Anzhi” as its Chinese name.

Android operating system originally developed by Andy Rubin, mainly in support of mobile phones. In August 2005, the Android becomes an acquisition as a part of Google injection. In November 2007, Google and 84 groups of hardware manufacturers, software developers and Telecom operators built the open mobile phone alliance to jointly develop and modify Android system. Then Google released the source code of Android through authorizing the Apache open source license. The first part of the Android intelligent mobile phone released in October 2008. After that, the Android gradually extended to the tablet computer and other areas, such as television, digital cameras, game consoles. The first quarter of 2011, Android ranking the first in the world for the first time exceeded the Symbian system in global market share. According to the data from November 2012, the Android dominates 76% share of the the global intelligent mobile phone operating system market, especially in Chinese, it takes 90% market share.

The word "Android" means a “robot", and it is also the name of open source mobile phone operating system which is based on Linux platform and announced by Google in November 5, 2007. The Linux platform consists of the operating system, middleware, user interface and application software.

The word "Android" first appeared in the French writer Adam published in 1886 science fiction "the future Eve" (L'è ve future). In the book, he gave the name “Android” to the machine which looks like a person.

The Android Logo is designed by Ascender Company. The text uses font that the Ascender Company has specialized set with the name “Droid”.

Android is a green robot, so the green color is a mark of the Android. Color used PMS 376C and RGB band of sixteen #A4C639 to draw; this is the brand symbol of Android operating system. Sometimes, they will use a plain text Logo.

In July 2012, the United States technology blog BusinessInsider had selected ten most important electronic products for the twenty-first Century, Android operating system and iPhone are on the list.
